Hidden doorways.

Harry Potter fans finally get to live out their wizarding fantasies in Hogwarts Legacy, exploring the nooks and crannies of Hogwarts school. That includes the iconic common rooms of the four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. But the castle is so huge that it doesn’t take much to get lost. If you’re a beginner stuck trying to find the Hufflepuff common room, here’s what you need to know.

As alluded to above, the castle’s architecture is elaborate, with each Common Room situated in a unique location. The Hufflepuff Common Room, for instance, is neither adjacent to the other rooms nor aligned in a linear row – it’s tucked away in a separate part of the school.

How to Get to Hufflepuff Common Room in Hogwarts Legacy

find the Hufflepuff Common Room

To reach the Hufflepuff Common Room, start from the Grand Staircase Floo Flame. The Grand Staircase serves as a central point in Hogwarts, leading to various parts of the castle. However, instead of going up or down the primary stairwell, go and descend the nearby spiral staircase.

Once you’ve reached the bottom of the staircase (past the House-Elf recipe book cabinet), proceed through the hallway adorned with portraits and barrels. Here’s where things get interesting. You’ll spot a stack of barrels and two large, decorated ones to your left. The one nearest to the pile of barrels holds the secret entrance to the Hufflepuff Common Room.

Identifying the entrance is a tad tricky, as it’s cleverly disguised in the barrel design. However, once familiar with its location, it’s easy to spot. The barrel closest to the pile serves as the gateway to the Hufflepuff Common Room. But there’s a catch.

The game has a unique feature where the Common Room entrance is only visible to those belonging to the respective House. So, if you’re a Gryffindor or Slytherin student, for example, the Hufflepuff Common Room entrance remains concealed. You’ll only see the intricately designed barrel, but no entryway. While this feature upholds the authenticity of the Harry Potter universe, it limits exploration.

Getting Inside the Hufflepuff Common Room

If you’re a Hufflepuff student, the entrance reveals itself when you approach the barrel. An entry will form in the barrel’s top, allowing you to walk through the passage into the Hufflepuff Common Room freely. Once inside, you can explore the Common Room, access the House Chest, and visit the sleeping quarters.

The Hufflepuff Common Room exudes a warm and welcoming vibe, reminiscent of a Hobbit hole. The room features a garden on the roof and an extensive space adorned with solid woodworking and plenty of greenery, embodying the Hufflepuff house’s cozy and earthy charm.

Exploring other Hogwarts Legacy Common Rooms

Once you’ve navigated through the Hufflepuff Common Room, you may be curious to explore the other Common Rooms. Similar to the Hufflepuff Common Room, the Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw Common Rooms are also located in unique parts of the castle and have their distinct themes and color palettes.

While the Hogwarts Legacy game restricts entry to other houses’ common rooms, there’s actually a glitch in the game that can be exploited to gain access. This involves using a flight trick beneath the Hogwarts foundation to clip into the Hufflepuff Common Room.

For example, to get into the Slytherin common room in Irondale, head to the house marked with a white cloth. You need to pace back and forth in front of the house until your character falls through the ground. Next, take out your broom and fly towards Hogwarts. As you approach the building adjacent to the main courtyard, look for the windows of the Slytherin common room. Navigate your broom through a small gap in the nearby rocks, and then dismount onto a concealed slab of rock positioned above. This action will surprisingly reveal the Slytherin common room.

You can get into other common rooms using a similar method (shown above). We don’t really recommend any of this, though, as it can bug out your game.

Remember that we have a Hogwarts Legacy interactive map that can help you locate tricky-to-find areas.
