Beans have been spilled.

Oh dear, somebody had to go and spoil the big surprise, huh? After a decade-long wait, Rockstar Games has had its hand forced. Originally scheduled to release later today, the publisher unveiled the first look at the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 following an unexpected online leak. The trailer gave fans a tantalizing glimpse into the game’s world, though not in the way we’d all imagined. It also revealed a 2025 release date.

Grand Theft Auto 6 continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences,” Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”

The new installment marks a big milestone in the franchise’s history, introducing Lucia, the series’ first female protagonist. The game is set in the sun-drenched, Miami-inspired Vice City, a nostalgic nod to the beloved 2002 entry of the series. Lucia will not tread this world alone; she is joined by an unnamed male lead, together embodying a modern-day Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic, navigating a life of love entwined with crime.

As you can see above, the trailer showcases Vice City’s vibrant life – from bustling beaches and opulent boats to the neon-lit nightlife. High-speed car chases along crowded highways, speedboat cruising, aerial escapades over the city, and dirt bike racing through traffic are just a few of the exhilarating modes of travel players can expect.

Adding a contemporary twist, the game seems to feature an in-game social media network, mirroring the likes of Twitter. This platform teases various elements of the game’s social life, including party scenes on boats, unusual incidents like extracting an alligator from a pool, and daring stunts such as twerking atop a moving car.

True to its roots, Grand Theft Auto 6 promises a hearty dose of crime and chaos. Players can anticipate engaging in high-stakes police pursuits and elaborate bank heists, with a hint of unconventional assistance from reptilian creatures.

The anticipation for the trailer was immense, with tens of thousands of fans eagerly awaiting its release. The enduring popularity of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5, remains unmatched. Since its 2013 release, it has sold over 190 million copies and generated more than $7.7 billion in revenue, making it one of the most successful games in history, second only to Minecraft.

The Grand Theft Auto series, first launched in 1997, has been a cornerstone in the gaming industry, renowned for its open-world design, often mirroring real-life locations. The series allows players to immerse themselves in a world of car theft, evading law enforcement, and engaging in various criminal activities. Grand Theft Auto V was a groundbreaking entry, being the first in the series to offer three distinct playable characters with intertwined stories.
