Slinging along nicely.

In a recent financial briefing for the quarter, Sony’s CFO and COO Hiroki Totoki revealed a remarkable achievement for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, reporting over 5 million units sold to customers globally as of October 30. Totoki proudly referred to the game as a “big hit” among fans and critics alike. Developer Insomniac later took to Twitter to rejoice the news.

The sequel, which follows the adventures of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales (recently confirmed as the future main protag), has seen a spectacular performance in sales, achieving this milestone within just ten days of its release. This figure is a considerable leap from the 2.5 million copies sold on the very first day the game hit the shelves, marking a massive success for Insomniac. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which debuted on October 20, is the latest installment following the highly acclaimed original Marvel’s Spider-Man from 2018 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from 2020.

Both titles have contributed to building a beloved Spider-Man universe, captivating with genuinely superb storytelling and dynamic gameplay. Adding to the excitement, it has been disclosed that the eagerly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine game will share the same universe designated as Earth-1048. This is the same universe that has been thrilling players through the swinging escapades of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

It’s worth noting that despite the excellent numbers, Spider-Man 2 isn’t the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive. God of War Ragnarok set a remarkable benchmark with 5.1 million copies sold in its first week, holding the lead. It is available on a much larger install base, though. God of War Ragnarok was available on both PlayStation 4 and PS5, and that broader reach is a significant factor.

In any case, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 remains a PS5 exclusive you shouldn’t miss out on.
